With newborn twins, a four year old son and a dog, a winemaker's family rapidly outgrew their 1680 square foot home. To accommodate current needs, one half the house will be demolished to allow for a basement and two-story addition, while the remaining original structure will acquire a new roof, expanded garage, family room and a large open kitchen. Three discrete volumes comprise the massing, punctuated by a central circulation spine providing clerestory light to all three spaces. Regionally contextual, conventional materials and stock construction elements will be utilized for economy and sustainability. The first floor includes a family room, open kitchen with an island and informal dining, a combined living dining space, office, guest/media room, screened porch and large mud room at the entry. The second floor incorporates 4 bedrooms, a loft, laundry room, and a den for adults, while the basement will house a wine cellar and playroom with access to the backyard.
